Rationale

“The laptop is now the classroom”

Two words and two very different sized objects. Yet, despite their differences, these two objects are used successfully to represent technological and evolutionary change within the design education sector.

Ignoring scale and proportion, an exploration of form and shape has been undertaken to find visual commonality between these objects. A single art room represents the traditional classroom environment whilst removing the visual complexity of a full room. Likewise, the ubiquitous MacBook pro represents new learning paradigms.

Representing each in overhead, plan view, allows visual connections to be established – the desk / laptop base and the screen / chair back, offering similar proportions on which to merge together.

Developing the imagery in a lo-fidelity format offers a more engaging visual style. It is also better suited to the proposed stop motion format. A style treatment utilising a paper texture background and pencil-drawn line work creates continuity of theme between animation and information graphic.
